Three areas
For Colmar Christmas market, pick the old town if the markets are the point: everything is a short walk and you can drop bags between squares. Pick the station area for day trips to Strasbourg or Basel, and the Expo edge if you are driving and want easy parking with the weekend Park & Ride bus into town.
Old town: every hotel here is under 1 km from the market squares in a straight line, so you can drop bags or warm up between markets. Best for a one- to three-night market trip without a car.
By the station: trains to Strasbourg (26 min) and Basel (about 40 min) leave from the doorstep, and the market squares are a 15-minute walk away.
Edge / Expo: easier parking and, on market weekends, the €5 Park & Ride bus into the centre; the two hotels here are 1.3 and 1.8 km from the market in a straight line.

Quick picks
If you just want one name, here is a hotel for each kind of Colmar Christmas market trip, all within 1.8 km of the squares and all rated 8 or higher by Trip.com guests. Prices change daily in December, so the cards show a price level rather than a figure — the link opens live rates for your dates.
Timing
Book Friday and Saturday nights for Colmar Christmas market first, because they fill earliest. When we checked, midweek nights still had the most choice, and the market is calmer then too. If your dates are flexible, a Tuesday-to-Thursday stay gets you a wider pick of hotels and quieter squares.
We searched the same ten hotels for a Tuesday-to-Thursday stay and for a Friday-to-Sunday stay in early December. Midweek, most of them showed rooms; for the weekend, far fewer did. This was a one-off search, not live availability — the links on each card show what is free on your dates. Midweek is also the calmest time at the market.

Plan B
If the old town is full for your Colmar Christmas market dates, stay in Strasbourg and take the 26-minute train, or book a hotel further out and let a village tour with hotel pickup do the driving. Strasbourg has far more rooms and its own markets, so it also works as a base for seeing two cities.
From a hotel outside the centre, the villages tour from Colmar picks you up and spends the day in Eguisheim, Riquewihr and Kaysersberg; you then see Colmar’s market on your own in the evening. Compare all options on the tours page.
Hotel pickupDriving
The old town is closed to cars during Colmar Christmas market hours, from 23 November to 29 December, so check that your hotel has parking or plan to leave the car at the edge. Two multi-storey car parks stay open around the clock, and on market weekends the city adds a €5 Park & Ride with a return bus.

Map of car parks and the marketStay in Colmar if the evening lights and a walkable market are the point of the trip; stay in Strasbourg if Colmar is full or you want two cities, because the train between them takes 26 minutes and runs through the day.
About a 15-minute walk. The two station hotels we list, The Originals City Hôtel Colmar Gare and Grand Hôtel Bristol, are 510 m and 1 km from the market in a straight line.
Colmar Suites Résidence has private parking. Otherwise use the Rapp or Gare/Bleylé car parks, both open 24/7, or on market weekends the Park & Ride at the Parc des Expositions for €5 a day including the bus.
One night is enough for the six squares and the lights after dark. Two nights let you add a village tour to Eguisheim, Riquewihr and Kaysersberg, and three let you add Strasbourg by train.
In the old town, within a kilometre of the squares: you can walk everywhere, go back to the room to warm up and see the lights without worrying about the last train or parking.
Weekends fill first. When we searched early-December dates, far fewer of the ten hotels we checked had rooms for Friday to Sunday than for Tuesday to Thursday, so book weekend nights as early as you can.
Appart’hôtel Odalys City has studios with a kitchen and an indoor heated pool, 800 m from the squares, and Ibis Budget Colmar Centre-Ville has triple and family rooms 200 m away.
